Transnational Crime & Trafficking

Part I: Write Questions/Answers (You can double-space these questions and single-space the bullet points)

For the transnational crime section, write 2 Q/As for each of the following topics, based on the videos/readings: Counterfeit merchandise, illegal drugs, endangered species, human trafficking, money laundering.

Write two substantive questions for each of the topics. Write questions that cannot be easily answered with a line from the text/video. Avoid questions that focus on trivial points or basic facts--essentially avoid anything that resembles a quiz question. Also avoid opinion questions ("What do you think is the best way to save elephants?") as well as very general questions, ("How does drug trafficking relate to globalization issues?" or "What are three issues with drug trafficking?")

For each question, answer your questions by bullet pointing the key aspects that address the issues raised in the question. Don’t write sentences or paragraphs to answer the questions, just bullet point in succinct terms and use sub-points to elaborate. The bullet points/ sub-points shouldn't have more than 15 or so words per point.

For Part I, you will have a total of 12 Q/As.

Part II: Answer these questions (You can either double-space written-out prose or single-space the bullet points)

1) How does globalization facilitate transnational crime?

2) How is global consumerism directly tied to globalized crime?

3) Why is transnational crime difficult to address? (Make sure to consider the impact of state sovereignty.)

Submitting your paper: Bring a printed, stapled copy of your paper to class. Arriving late to class will result in 10% deduction. No papers will be accepted after this time (which overrides the course syllabus policy, for reasons I explained in class).
